    Dear Andrew,

First of all – my hat off to you for doing this job! What an excellent resource this website has been for me in my journey building an online business. I have a question for you –

I have heard about something called “deep linking” – what it is and how it can help me to get higher in Google?

    Thanks,
    Elizabeth, UK

    Dear Elizabeth,

Thanks for your appreciation & question.

Deep linking means linking to a inner page of a website. Say, for example, a normal (domain) link would look like this:

    http://www.yourwebsite.com

Deep link would look like this:

    http://www.yourwebsite.com/category1.html

    OR

    http://www.yourwebsite.com/category1/product2.html

So it simply means linking to a inner page of a website, not home (index) page.

In SEO game it simply means more natural linking structure – as links to product pages, category pages, blog posts, comments etc. is a part of natural link building structure. That’s exactly why you want to have as many links, from as many different sources, to as many different pages to your website as possible.

Getting hundreds of links to your home page won’t be as effective as hundreds of links to inner pages. Deep links also help to diversify your Page Rank across all website and get your pages indexed faster by Google, Yahoo and other search engines.

This topic really asks for more detailed answer but hope this helps and covers the bases of deep linking for e-commerce sites.

    Thanks,
    Andrew
