Product Videos MADE EASY!

    Hi Andrew,

Your Perfect HD Camcorder for Product Videos article made me think more about product videos and how they can be used to increase conversion rates on my online shop. I really didn’t know that you can get a decent quality videos for this purpose using a cheap, 50 quid web camera!

I’m really tempted to give this a go. My only concern at the moment is that I’m not sure I will feel comfortable showing my face in the videos, you know what I mean? I’m not the type of person trying to get into family pics, to be honest – I always try to stay away from any camera pointing at me!

So, Andrew – what do you think? Should I just over-come my fears and get it done or there are any alternatives out there? I really want to make this work but don’t want to look stupid in the videos, that would ruin the whole professional company image I’m trying to build here!

    Thanks so much!
    Damien

    Hi Damien,

    Thanks for your question.

Yes, the easiest advice I could give you is – over come your fears of facing a camera and just get it done! With that said, I fully understand how you feel and won’t be that harsh! Besides, some people really shouldn’t be filmed – especially if you’re doing this for business purposes :-)

    Few ideas you could consider:

    * Hiring a friend or family member! I’m sure you know someone who is attractive, open minded and creative! It could be a friend of yours or a family member – it doesn’t matter as long as they’re willing to help you out. You never know before asking so give this a go!

    * Stay out of the video! You can still make product videos and even reviews WITHOUT actually showing up in the video! You just shoot the product, show how it works etc. but stay outside the frame, just comment what’s going on. If you do this, you can also record audio separately via your PC getting much better audio quality!

    * Create slide shows/on screen videos! Yeah, this is boring and not as attractive as real videos BUT a slide show with a commentary is still better than nothing.

    * Outsource product videos! If you have just one or few products, consider hiring a professional actor or actor student to perform in your videos. This can be costly if you go after a true professional! That’s why I would look for a student studying acting at your local university. (check uni forums or classified ads).

    * Send product to independent reviewer! Yep, chances are you can find bloggers or vloggers in your niche that do product reviews or tests for FREE if you send them your product! Just take a look at YouTube and search for your target keyword along with words like “review” or “test”. This will also give you extra publicity! Make sure your product is top quality to use this strategy.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks,
    Andrew
