I want to start a new business (this will be my first business venture) selling furniture online – do you think it’s a good idea?

I have about $3000 to invest into this venture.

First of all – let me congratulate on your decision – many people dream about having a business but only very few actually do anything about it. Ohh and sure – even fewer will make any money at the end of the day…

BUT I don’t think your idea on selling furniture online is a good one, for several reasons:

* It will require more than $3000. Even if you’re planning on using a drop shipping model. Your biggest problem will lie in cash flow – with $3000 you won’t be able to sell many items before you run out of cash, unless your dropshipper can give you a credit line (very unlikely for a start-up).

* It will be very complex business model – there are so many furniture categories/styles/products/sizes that for a “one man band” operation it will simply be too overwhelming – it will take ages to add products, descriptions etc. etc. IN a word – a business like this would require a team working on it.

With that said, I would recommend you to concentrate on one category of furniture, find much smaller SUB-NICHE or even just 1 product to sell! For example – TV Tables OR Children Beds etc. Something you can manage on your own, something your cash-flow is suitable for.

Bigger business idea doesn’t mean you’ll make more money and vice versa so plan your business concept so that it matches your buying power,  skills and experience.
